Clemmie is a Joshua legend

Behind the scenes at Joshua there are people every year who make a huge difference to our work by fundraising, donating and going all out in various different ways. Sometimes you never hear about them simply because we're a small charity, and we don't have the time to shout about all the people who make Joshua's work possible.   One such person is Clemmie Warner (pictured right), who was a volunteer with St Pauls School (Clemmie and her whole team) in Malawi last year, working on construction the assembly hall. Clemmie came back from Malawi with memories that will last a life time and raved to her family and friends about what a great charity Joshua is and how grateful she was to have been involved in our work.

And it doesn't end there. For Christmas Clemmie asked that her family donate to Joshua, rather than buying her a Christmas present. And she raised over £485 in the process. Her selfless generosity is why she is one of Joshua's many secret superheroes, who go the extra mile to make life in Malawi better for hundreds of people every year. Thank you Clemmie - We couldn't do it without you.

Thank you Mary's Meals

We would like to say a massive thank you to Mary's Meals for their incredible donation of school supplies, stationery, football kits and much more.

We have been fortunate to have been working with Mary's Meals for many years now, and this incredible donation, despite creating a jumble sale feel in Sylvia’s front room, will help us provide around 600 disadvantaged children with school starter packs in September - a simply incredible donation.

A special thank you goes to Gillian Boyle at Mary's Meals in Malawi, Gem Clark and the Project Trust volunteers for helping to sort all the items.

Students have Sacks of Fun

Last week a fun day was organised for students at Joshua Secondary School by teachers, volunteers Jean Pollard and Gemma Clark and Joshua field officers. The day was a huge success and there were even prizes for the winners of the various events, which included a classic worldwide - the sack race.

The prizes came from an incredibly generous donation from Mary's Meals. A partner charity of Joshua's who we have been working with for many years. Mary's Meals provide meals to children in schools and also at some of the feeding centres built by Joshua. They are a fantastic organisation and we are always grateful for their help and support.

Other events include a bun eating competition, singing and dancing competitions, a lucky dip, nail polishing which was apparently wild and a disco to celebrate, all in all the day was a huge success.

Church Champions Joshua

This year we are delighted to be being supported by the congregation and clergy at St Mary Magdalen church in Tilehurst. From Lent until Candlemas they are donation all the money they raise from their fundraising activities (and more) to Joshua.

Last Sunday, Andy Deaville was invited to the church where he was honoured to be given the usual sermon slot to talk about our work and how the church's support will help the vulnerable communities we work with in Malawi. Andy is pictured above presenting the church with a special thank you to the Revd. Peter Grosse.

Andy received an incredibly warm welcome, including lots of tea and cake (and pasta), and we are thrilled to announce that so far, the churches efforts, including a Pasta Party, Lent Donation's and a brave Heroes Runner in the shape of Peter Mayers (pictured), have raised over £900.

We would like to thank everyone at the church for their support in making all of these events so successful and we look forward to keeping you up to date throughout the year with their fantastic fundraising efforts.

Scooby Doo does it for Joshua

Scooby Doo and chums took to the streets of Brighton in May to tackle the Heroes Vs Villains run in aid of Joshua.

Undoubtedly on the side of good Scooby, who usually goes by the name Sam Wright, and Shaggy (Steve Birchall), Velma (Pippa Crouch), Fred (Alex Wright) and Daphne (Pippa Wright) had to not only battle the 10km distance, but also the hot weather.

The whole team "got away with it" and finished the course, raising an incredible £1,021 for Joshua in the process.

And they weren't alone, another five runners for Joshua, including Peter Mayers, Frankie Burton, Sarah Charlton, Geri Burton and Oliver Tonks also tacked the course, and together all ten have raised nearly £2,000.

We would like to thank our team of Heroes for all their hard work and effort and if you'd like to get involved with Heroes Run 2016, or another event for Joshua, just drop Heather a line on heather@joshuainmalawi.org.uk
